In 1868, the parish of Prior contained the following places:

"PRIOR, a parish in the barony of Iveragh, county Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 7 miles S. of Cahersiveen, its post town. It is situated in a mountainous and wild district on Ballinaskelleg Bay, and not far from Bolus Head. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe, value, with Dromod, £260, in the patronage of the crown. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Killenlagh."
