The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ballysax contained the following places:

"BALLYSAX, a parish in the barony of East Offaly, in the county of Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S.E. of Kildare. It is situated close to the famous Carragh race-course. The soil is good, but there is much bog and wasteland. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Dublin, Glendalagh, and Kildare, of the value of £165, in the gift of the crown. There are numerous gentlemen's seats in the parish, among which are Ballysax House, Cobourg Lodge, Bailyfair House, Turf Lodge."
