In 1868, the parish of Cashel contained the following places:

It lies in a boggy country, on the eastern shore of Lough Ree, and was the site of a monastery, subordinate to the abbey of Seven Church Island. There are some picturesque remains of the building. The parish contains some beds of limestone. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Kilmore, Ardagh, and Elphin, value £228, in the patronage of the bishop. The church stands near the site of the old monastery. The principal mansion is Newpark House. The parish spreads over an area of 15,860 acres.
