"ENNISCOFFEY, a parish in the barony of Fartullagh, county Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles S.E. of Mullingar. The greater part of the surface consists of grass land. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Meath, value with another, £129, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built in 1818 by the late Board of First Fruits, and is a neat structure. In the Roman Catholic arrangement this parish forms part of the union of Fartullagh. There are parochial and other day schools. At Gaybrook an action took place between the forces of William III. and James II., in which the latter were routed."
