The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Foyran contained the following places:

"FOYRAN, a parish in the barony of Fore, county Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 6 miles N. of Castlepollard, its post town. It lies along the S. shore of Lough Sheelin. The soil is good. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Meath, value with Rathgraff, £361, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a Roman Catholic chapel at Tullystown, united to the district of Castlepollard. Two daily schools are in the parish Here are vestiges of an old church and castle. Near Fince several battles were fought, and there are some remains of earthworks."

"FINNEA, a post village in the parish of Foyran, barony of Fore, county Westmeath, province of Leinster, Ireland, 8 miles N.W. of Castlefullen. It is situated on the left bank of the river Inney, on the Cavan frontier, and has loughs Sheelin and Kinale on either side. The village is a poor place. The Inney is crossed by a stone bridge of nine arches. This place has been the scene of various engagements. Fairs are held on the 17th March, the Saturday before Whit-Sunday, 27th July, 18th August, 18th September, and 15th November."
