St Alban, Stockport, Church of England

Founded in 1877 as a chapel to Stockport: St. Mary the Virgin. became a district church in 1893, serving the township of Offerton and parts of the townships of Stockport and Bredbury (previously in the parishes of Stockport: St. Mary the Virgin and Bredbury: St. Mark). The boundaries of "The District of Hall-Street, Stockport" were described in the London Gazette on 21 July 1893:

"All that portion of the parish of Saint Mary Stockport in the county of Chester and in the diocese of Chester wherein the present incumbent of such parish still possesses the exclusive cure of souls and also all that contiguous portion of the new parish (sometime district) of Saint Mark Bredbury in the same county and diocese which said portions are comprised within and are bounded by an imaginary line commencing upon the boundary which divides the parish of Saint Thomas Stockport in the said county and diocese from the parish of Saint Mary Stockport aforesaid at the junction of Hempshaw-lane with Webb-lane and extending thence first northward then eastward then north-eastward then north-westward and then again north-eastward along the middle of the last-named lane for a distance of thirty-five chains or thereabouts to its junction with Hall Street and extending thence northwestward along the middle of the said street for a distance of one and a half chains or thereabouts to its junction with Greystoke-street and extending thence north-eastward along the middle of the last-named street for a distance of nine chains or thereabouts to its junction with Grimshaw-street and extending thence northwestward along the middle of the last-named street for a distance of five chains or thereabouts to its junction with Turncroft-lane and extending thence north-eastward along the middle of the last-named lane for a distance of one and a half chains or thereabouts to its junction with New Zealand-road and extending thence first northwestward then north-eastward and then northward along the middle of the last-named road for a distance of thirty-eight chains or thereabouts to its junction with New Bridge-lane and extending thence north-eastward along the middle of the last-named lane for a distance of ten chains or thereabouts to a point at th« centre of the bridge called or known as New Bridge which carries the said last-named lane over the river
Mersey upon the boundary which divides the said parish of Saint Mary Stockport from the new parish of Saint Mark Bredbury aforesaid and extending thence first southward then westward and then again southward along the same boundaiy for a distance of thirty chains or thereabouts (thereby following the middle of the said river) to the point where the said boundary leaves the same river and continuing thence still along the middle of the said river for a further distance of one mile and thirty chains or thereabouts first north-eastward then eastward then southward then westward and then again southward to the point where the last- mentioned boundary rejoins the said river opposite to the northern end of the wall forming the eastern and southern boundaries of the park and plantation attached to the house called or known as Woodbank which point is upon the said boundary dividing the said new parish of Saint Mark Bredbury from the parish of Saint Mary Stockport aforesaid which boundary also divides the township of Bredbury from the township of Offerton and extending thence first southward and then southwestward along the same boundary for a distance of twenty-five chains or thereabouts to the point near the house called or known as Brown House where the last-mentioned boundary meets the boundary which divides the said township of Offerton from the township of Stockport and extending thence southward along the said township boundary for a distance of thirteen chains or thereabouts to a point at the junction of Offerton-lane with Hempshaw-lane aforesaid and extending thence generally westward along the middle of the last-named lane for a distance of fifty chains or thereabouts (thereby following from Four-lane ends the said boundary which divides
the said parish of Saint Mary Stockport from the parish of Saint Thomas Stockport aforesaid) to the firstly above-mentioned point at the junction of the said Hempshaw-lane with Webb-lane aforesaid at which point the said imaginary line commenced."
