BRATTON-CLOVELLY, a parish in the hundred of LIFTON, county of DEVON, 8 miles (W. S. W.) from Oakhampton, containing 705 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £21. 5. 2½., and in the patronage of the Bishop of Exeter. On an eminence about three miles northward is Broadbury Castle, an ancient earthwork defended by a single vallum and fosse.
