The paper was presented at the Association’s July 1906 Lynton meeting. A cryptogam is a plant or a plant-like organism that reproduces by spores, without flowers or seeds. "Cryptogamae" means "hidden reproduction", referring to the fact that no seed is produced, thus cryptogams represent the non-seed bearing plants. According to Wikipedia the best-known groups of cryptogams are algae, lichens, mosses and ferns, but the term also includes non-photosynthetic organisms traditionally classified as plants, for example, fungi, slime molds, and bacteria. The "Braunton" Botanical District includes 16 parishes: Mortehoe, Ilfracombe, Berrynarbor, Combemartin, Trentishoe, Kentisbury, East Down, Bittadon, West Down, Georgeham, Braunton, Heanton-Punchardon, Ashford, Mar wood, Pilton, and Barnstaple. The "Sherwill" Botanical District includes 14 parishes: Martinhoe, Lynton, Countisbury, Brendon, Parracombe, Challacombe, Arlington, Loxhore, Sherwill, Bratton Fleming, High Bray, Charles, Stoke Rivers, and Goodleigh. The article, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
