The Prowse memorials in St Michael's Church, Chagford, are found in the south choir aisle. Holinshed and others claim that the original Prouz took part with William Conqueror in the Battle of Senlac. This 'Note' provides some back ground history to the Prowse family, then describes and discusses most of the coats of arms that appear on the several Prowse family monuments in the church. It is a treasure house for the student of Devon's family heraldry. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries.
