W. Cockram23rd June 1740 for making an assault and affray upon Thomas Crook and for beating wounding and ill treating him. [comment: Not Guilty - Testimony Thomas Crook].
Thomas SharlandFor using and Exercising the Art Mistery or manuell occupation of a Smith at Sandford from the 7th July 1740 to 7th October then next following having not been brought up for the space of 7 years as an apprentice in such Trade contrary to ye form of ye statute in such case made and provided. John Rowe1 of March in ye 12th year of ye now King at Heavytree did erect a cottage for habitation and Dwelling of one Bowbear and did not lay out four acres of ground to be occupied continually therewith so long as ye same cottage should be inhabited contrary to ye form of ye statute and that he did continue ye same for habitation and dwelling from ye said 1st March to Michaelmas Sessions 1740 contrary to ye form of ye statute. For that on ye 24 of June 1740 came before Samuel Rolle esq and Peter Beavis clerk 2 of ye Justices of ye Peace and did there voluntarily maliciously falsly and corruptly swear upon ye Holy Gospell before the said justices That there was eighteen pounds and upwards due to them from Robert Maire; John Bale; and William Newcombe and in fact for the rent of a Lime Quarry rock and Kiln called Venn Lime Kilns in Landkey when in truth and fact they were not indebted to them in that sum But were only indebted in ye sum of twelve pounds and no more whereby they committed willfull and corrupt perjury. Sarah Hunkin wife of Jonas Hunkin1st October 1740 at Shebbear in this County was at ye time of finding ye Bill still was a common Scold, a Common disturber of ye peace an ever dropper and ever sower of Discord among her neighbours at Shebbear aforesaid To the grievance such neighbours and others of ye Kings Subjects To ye ill example of others and against ye Kings Peace.
