HISTORICAL AND GENEALOGICAL PUBLICATIONS AND RESEARCH

The Devon and Cornwall Record Society was founded in 1904 to publish local records and to promote local historical studies and genealogical research. Details are given overleaf of the Society's New Series publications which cover many aspects of the Westcountry's political, social, religious, economic and maritime history. Fully subscribed members receive a free copy of each volume at the time of publication.

The collections of the Devon and Cornwall Record Society are deposited at the Devon Heritage Centre, Great Moor House, Bittern Road, Sowton, Exeter EX2 7NL. They moved from the mezzanine level of the former Westcountry Studies Library to the searchroom of the Devon Heritage Centre in early October 2012.

It is not necessary to be a member of the society in order to use the records at the Devon Heritage Centre. However, it is necessary to register as a user at the Devon Heritage Centre, if you have not already done so on an earlier occasion, in order to use the searchroom. It is also necessary to book in each time you visit the searchroom to use the collections of the Devon and Cornwall Record Society (and the local studies collections formerly held at the Westcountry Studies Library).

Members engaged in genealogical research who cannot come to Exeter personally may employ the services of a professional record searcher. The Society maintains a list of approved searchers, but fees must be arranged directly between the searcher and the client.

UK subscriptions are £16.50 (individual membership), and £20.00 (joint membership and institutional membership). Overseas subscriptions are £21.00 (individual) and £25.00 (institutional). Professional record agents who use the Society's library in the course of their business pay £30.00. Application forms may be obtained from the Hon Secretary, 7 The Close, Exeter EX1 1EZ.
