Ninth Report (Second Series) of the Committee on the Climate of Devon.
Trans. Devon Assoc., 1891, Vol XXIII, pp. 144-145.
by
E. E. Glyde, Secretary, Hon. Sec.
Prepared by Michael Steer
The Report was presented at the Association’s July 1891 Tiverton meeting. The Committee had collected and tabulated an abstract of meteorological observations taken during 1890 relating to rainfall, temperature, humidity, and cloud, by several experienced persons scattered throughout Devon, claiming that their comparison afforded a better idea of the climatic variations in the different districts than any generalization might. This index provides a record of the observers who participated in the project and identifies their observation stations. A new station, Duncan House, Torquay was added this year to those previously reporting. It was situated on the southern slope of Warberry Hill. However, Rainfall reported for that station was recorded by Col. J. E. Currie, at Grey's Lodge, Torquay, 260 feet above sea-level, and a quarter of a mile W.N.W. of Duncan House. Observations made at the Devon and Exeter Hospital were substituted for those made at the Devon and Exeter Institution, as the instruments at the new station were placed in more favourable conditions for comparing with those at other stations. The Report, from a copy of a rare journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
