SLAPTON, a parish in the hundred of COLERIDGE, county of DEVON, 6 miles (S. W.) from Dartmouth, containing 689 inhabitants. The living is a discharged perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Totness, and diocese of Exeter, endowed with £600 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £1200 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of the Parishioners. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. John and Charles Kelland, about 1690, bequeathed £150, which, with accumulations, now produces about £20 per annum, applied to the instruction and apprenticing of poor children.
