Description in 1871:
"SEAGRAVE, a parish, with a village, in Barrow-upon-Soar district, Leicester; 2 miles N N E of Sileby r.station, and 6 S E by E of Loughborough. It has a post-office under Loughborough. Acres, 2,470. Real property, £3,422. Pop., 443. Houses, 96. The property is subdivided. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Peterborough. Value, £404. Patron, Queen's College, Cambridge. The church was restored in 1858. There are a Primitive Methodist chapel and some charities. Burton, the author of the "Anatomy of Melancholy," was rector."

- A small cemetery of half an acre was consecrated here in 1889 and was managed by a Burial Board in the Parish Council.

Seagrave is a town and a parish about 6 miles east of Loughborough, 9 miles north of Leicester city and 112 miles north of London. The village sits east of the River Soar next to a rivulet (The Berry Brook) that empties into that river. The ancient Roman Fosseway (now the A46) skirts the parish on the east side. The parish covers about 2,515 acres.

- By automobile, take the A46 north out of Leicester. Just past the Ratcliffe on Wreake round-about, there is a turn off for the Seagrave-Thrussington road. Take that road to the left (west) to get to Seagrave.

Gilbert de Segrave of Segrave, was High Sheriff of Warwickshire and Leicestershire in 1193.
Gilbert (above) was the father of Stephen de Segrave (c. 1171 – 1241) Chief Justiciar of England.

- There are two Commonwealth War Graves in the churchyard burial ground for World War II.
- This place is in the 1086 Domesday Book where it is listed as "Segrave", amongst the lands given to Henry de Ferrers by the King. The land consisted of work for 1 plough and four acres of meadow.
