Castle Church in 1868

"CASTLE-CHURCH, a parish in the eastern division of the hundred of Cuttlestone, in the county of Stafford, 1 mile to the S.W. of Stafford, its post town. It is situated near the London and North-Western and Shropshire Union railways.

It contains the chapelry of St. Paul's, Forebridge, which is a perpetual curacy, value £120, in the patronage of the Incumbent of Castle-Church; and the townships of Burton and Rickerscote.

The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Lichfield, value £120, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, an old edifice partly in the Norman style, is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The charitable endowments of the parish amount to about £75 per annum. There are a handsome Roman Catholic chapel, and an endowed school connected with it."
