"HOPWAS-HAYES, an extra parochial place in the parish of Tamworth, S. division of the hundred of Offlow, county Stafford, 2 miles W. of Tamworth. It is situated near the Coventry canal and the river Tame, over which is a bridge. There is a chapel-of-ease, and an endowed school founded in 1724 by Thomas Barnes."
"HOPWAS, a hamlet in the parish of Tamworth, S. division of the hundred of Offlow, county Stafford, 2 miles N.W. of Tamworth. It is situated near the junction of the rivers Tame and Anker, and near the Trent Valley railway."
