In 1868, the parish of Muckamore contained the following places:

"GRANGE OF MUCKAMORE, a parish in the barony of Lower Massareene, county Antrim, province of Ulster, Ireland, 1 mile S.E. of Antrim, containing the village of Massareene. It is 4 miles long, and its greatest breadth is 2 miles. The surface lies along the S. bank of the Six-mile-water, and touches the shore of Lough Neagh. The soil is very productive, and the district is famous for its cheese. Muckamore is a parochial grange, united to the parish of Antrim, in the diocese of Connor. There are two day schools. Muckamore Abbey, Summerhill, and Green mount, are the principal seats. There are ruins of an abbey founded by St. Columb in 550, also Druidical remains. It was granted to the Langford family by Queen Elizabeth."

"MASSEREENE, a village in the parish of Grange of Muckamore, in the barony of Lower Massereene, county Antrim, province of Ulster, Ireland, not far from Antrim. It is situated on the bank of the Six-mile Water. Here stood a Priory, founded by the O'Nials in 1426, and given to the Chichester family by James I. It gives title of baron to the Fosters of Antrim Castle. Medicinal springs occur in the vicinity."
