1839: The church opened in December as the Magdalene Episcopal Chapel, originally a part of the Parish of Shankill. The church building included basement rooms used as a school and was attached to an Asylum (for "penitent females").
1898: The church building was badly damaged by a fire, subsequently demolished and rebuilding started on the same site.
1900: New church opened, dedicated to St Mary Magdalene.
