In 1868, the parish of Tartaraghan contained the following places:

"TARTARAGHAN, a parish and post-office village in the barony of West O'Neilland, county Armagh, province of Ulster, Ireland, 6 miles N. of Richhill. The soil is fertile. The parish is bounded by the rivers Bann and Blackwater, and by Lough Neagh. The villages of Maghery and Milltown are within the limits. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Armagh, value £266. The church was rebuilt in 1816 by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and chapels for Presbyterians and Wesleyans, also several Sunday and private day schools. Ruins of the old church are still remaining."

"MAGHERY, a village in the parish of Tartaraghan, in the barony of West O'Neilland, county Armagh, province of Ulster, Ireland, 6 miles N.E. of Charlemont. It is situated on the S. W. side of Lough Neagh, near the river Blackwater. Fairs are held on 31st January, 30th April, 24th June, and 31st October."

"MILLTOWN, a village in the parish of Tartaraghan, barony of West O'Neilland, county Armagh, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles N.E. of Charlemont. It is situated on the bank of Lough Neagh, and contains a church."
