"BALLYHAISE, a village in the parish of Castleterra, and barony of Upper Loughtee, in the county of Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 4 miles to the N.E. of Cavan. It is situated on the south bank of the river Annalee. The parish church stands near the village, and there is a chapel belonging to the Roman Catholics. There are some large flour-mills and a market house. Ballyhaise House is the principal mansion. A market is held on Saturday, and fairs for cattle on the 1st March, the 18th May, the 13th July, the 30th August, the 6th November, and the 13th December."
