"KILLINKERE, (or Killencare), a parish in the baronies of Castlerahan and Upper Loughtee, county Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles N.E. of Ballyjamesduff. Virginia is its post town. It is 7 miles long by 4 broad. The surface consists for the most part of good arable soil. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Kilmore, value £707, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was erected at the expense of the late Board of First Fruits in 1817. Here are two (united) Roman Catholic chapels and two Presbyterian meeting-houses. One Sunday and several day schools are within the parish. Slate occurs here.
