The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ardnageehy contained the following places:

"ARDNAGEEHY, a parish in the barony of Barrymore, in the county of Cork province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles to the S.W. of Rathcormack. It is situated in a mountainous country on the river Bride, and contains the villages of Glenville and Watergrasshill. The surface rests on clay slate, and flagstone and coarse slate are quarried. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross, value £437, in the patronage of the bishop. Petty sessions are held once a fortnight at Watergrass Lill; and there are police stations at that village and at Glenville. The principal residences are Bridestown, Mount Pleasant, Glanassack, and Westmount. Fairs are held at Glenville on the 4th May and the 3rd November."

"GLENVILLE, a village in the parish of Ardnageehy, barony of Barrymore, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles S.W. of Rathcormac. It is situated on the road from Cork to Glanworth, and contains a police station, parish church, chapel, school, and a dispensary, a branch of that of Watergrasshill."

"WATERGRASS HILL, a village in the parish of Ardnageehy, barony of Ballymore, county Cork, Ireland, 9 miles N.E. of Cork."
