In 1868, the parish of Addergoole contained the following places:

"ADDERGOOLE, a parish in the barony of Dunmore, in the county of Galway, and province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles to the N.W. of Dunmore. It is situated on the river Clare, and on the road from Dunmore to Castlebar. Petty sessions are held once a fortnight, and a police station is established here. The land consists chiefly of moor with bog. In 1745, a lough of 300 acres in extent was formed by the bursting of this bog after heavy rains. The living is a vicarage united with Tuam, in the diocese of Tuam, Killala, and Achonry. There is a chapel of-ease at Kilconly."

"MILLTOWN, a village in the parish of Addergoole, barony of Dunmore, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles N.N.W. of Tuam. It is situated on the road from thence to Ballyhannis, and on the banks of the Clare river. The village contains a dispensary within the Tuam Poor-law Union; also a Roman Catholic chapel and a police-office. Millbrook is the neighbouring sent."
