In 1868, the parish of Ardrahan contained the following places:

"ARDRAHAN, a parish chiefly in the barony of Dunkellin, partly in those of Loughrea and Kiltartan, in the county of Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 16 miles to the S.E. of Galway. It lies between the coast of Galway Bay, and the north-western extremity of the Slieveboughta mountains. Many black cattle are pastured on the mountains. Iron ore has been found, and there are some mineral springs. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert, and Kilmacduagh, value with that of Beagh, £692, in the patronage of the Marquis of Clanricarde. Here is a police station, and petty sessions are held once a fortnight. Flannel weaving is carried on in the village."

"SCALP, a hamlet in the parish of Ardrahan, barony of Loughrea, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles N.N.E. of Gort, on the road from Loughrea A chalybeate spring exists in the vicinity."
