In 1868, the parish of Ballyheigue contained the following places:

"BALLYHEIGUE, a parish in the barony of Clanmaurice, in the county of Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 15 miles to the N.W. of Tralee. The parish, which is of large extent, comprising an area of 11,261 acres, is situated in a mountainous and boggy district on the coast of a bay bearing the same name, and includes the promontory of Kerry Head, which forms the northern boundary of the bay. The coast is dangerous, and presents some striking scenery. Coastguard and police stations are established here, and petty sessions are held. A useful building stone is obtained, and at Kerry Head are found amethysts and the Kerry diamond. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Limerick, Ardfert, and Aghadoe, of the value of £204, in the patronage of the bishop. Ballyheigue Castle, the seat of Colonel Crosbie, is a fine mansion in the perpendicular style of architecture."

"COUMDECHY, a village in the parish of Ballyheigue, barony of Clanmaurice, in the county of Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles N. W. of Ardfert. It is a police and coastguard station."

"DRUMGOWER, a village in the parish of Ballyheigue, barony of Clanmaurice, in the county of Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland. It is situated near Ballyhaigue."

"KERRY HEAD, a headland at the mouth of the river Shannon, in the parish of Ballyheigue, county Kerry, Ireland, 8 miles N.W. of Ardfert."

"TIERSHANAHAN, a village in the parish of Ballyheigue, barony of Clanmaurice, county Kerry, 15 miles N.W. of Tralee."
