In 1868, the parish of Balteagh contained the following places:

"BALTEAGH, a parish in the barony of Keenaght, and county of Londonderry, in the province of Ulster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S. of Newtownlimavady. It lies on the eastern side of the river Roe, and is intersected by the Balteagh water, a feeder of the Roe. The mountains of Donald's Hill and Cody extend into the eastern part of the parish, the former rising 1,315 feet above the level of the sea. Between these mountains and the Roe there is a tract of rich and cultivated land. Limestone is quarried near the Cedy mountain, and many interesting fossils are found in it. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Derry and Raphoe, value £437, in the patronage of the bishop. There are chapels belonging to the Roman Catholics and Presbyterians."

"DRUMSURN, a town in the parish of Balteagh, barony of Keenaght, in the county of Londonderry, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles S.E. of Newtown-Limavaddy."
