"LISSAN, a parish partly in the barony of Loughinsholin, county Londonderry, and partly in the barony of Dungannon, county Tyrone, province of Ulster, Ireland, 2 miles S.W. of Moneymore. Cookstown is its post town. The parish is 9 miles long, and its greatest breadth is 4 miles. The surface is mountainous, Slievegullion and Fir Mountain being prominent heights. The Loughry stream courses through part of the parish, and part of Lough Fea is within the limits. The parish is crossed by the road from Cookstown to Newtown Limavady. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Armagh, value £444, in the patronage of the primate. There are a church, Roman Catholic chapel, and several Sunday and day schools. Lissan House is the principal seat. Fairs are held on the 1st January, 12th May, 12th August, and 26th November."
