The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Clonaslee contained the following places:

"CLONASLEE, a district parish and post village in the barony of Tinnehinch, in Queen's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 13 miles N.W. of Maryboro'. The surface is mountainous and boggy, and is intersected by the road from Dublin to Birr. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Kildare, value £120, in the patronage of the Incumbent of Oregon. The church was built by the late Board of First Fruits in 1814. Here is also a Roman Catholic chapel. The village, formerly part of Kilmanman, stands on the rivulet Barradois, near the Slievebloom mountains. Petty sessions are held here. In the neighbourhood are the ruins of Castle-Cuff, the former residence of the Cuff family, but which was taken about 200 years ago by Sir Charles Coote, in whose family it has remained ever since. The handsome mansion named Brittas is the property of Colonel Dunne, M.P. for Queen's County, whose family trace back their pedigree further than almost any of the old Celtic families. The woods at Brittas are very beautiful, being composed of old oaks that have stood there in succession for centuries. Fairs are held on the 3rd May and 7th November."
