The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilbreedy Major contained the following places:

"KILBREEDY MAJOR, a parish in the barony of Small County and Coshlea, county Limerick, province Munster, Ireland, 2 miles W.S.W, of Kilmallock, its post town. The surface consists for the most part of good arable soil, resting on a limestone bottom. It is traversed by the river Maig, and the road from Kilmallock to Charleville. The living is joined to the benefice of Kilmallock, in the diocese of Limerick. Several raths occur on the hills."

"BULGADEN, formerly a parish in the parish of Kilbreedy Major,of Coshlea, in the county of Limerick, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the N.E. of Kilmallock. It is no longer a separate parish, but has been annexed to the parishes adjacent to it. An old mansion near the village, now decayed, was the seat of the Evanses, and since of Lord Carbery."
