The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ballyburly contained the following places:

"BALLYBURLY, a parish in the baronies of Warrenstown and Lower Philipstown, in King's County, in the province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles to the N.E. of Philipstown. It is situated in a fertile and highly cultivated district on the north side of the Yellow river. The Grand canal passes near the village. There is abundance of limestone, which is quarried for building, burning, and road making. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Dublin, Glendalagh, and Kildare, of the value of £236, in the patronage of J. Wakely, Esq. The church, which was erected in 1686, contains a monument to some of the Wakely family. Ballyburly House, an Elizabethan mansion, is the seat of the Wakelys. There are several other seats.

"COOLCOR, a parish in the baronies of Warrenstown and Lower Philipstown, in King's County, Ireland, united to the parish of Ballyburly. "

"ROAD, (or Rhode), a hamlet in the barony of Warrenstown, King's County, Ireland, 5 miles N.E. of Philipstown. It had formerly a religious house, founded by St. Pulcherius in the 7th century."
