The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Hore Abbey contained the following places:

"HORE-ABBEY, a parish in the barony of Middlethird, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, near Cashel, its post town. It is 2 miles long by 1½ mile broad. The surface consists of a fair soil. The living is a suspended rectory in the diocese of Cashel and patronage of the bishop. There is a day school. The principal residences are Beerpark, Ballinamona, Castle-Lake Cottage, and Marvill. This parish takes its name from a Benedictine monastery which was founded here in 1272 by Archbishop David Mac Carvill. The ruins are in good preservation, and lie beneath the rock of Cashel. The abbey was frequently described as St. Mary's of the Rock of Cashel. After the Dissolution it was granted to the Ratcliffs, and subsequently to the Butlers."
