The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Templeachally contained the following places:

"TEMPLEACHALLY, a parish in the baronies of Owney and Arra, county Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland. The surface consists of a rich soil, with some little bog and mountain. It includes Ballina-on-Shannon and Lough Derg. The living is a rectory united to Kilmastulla. There are quarries of slate and gritstone. The principal residence is Forthenry."

"BALLINA, a village in the parish of Templeachally, barony of Owney and Arra, in the county of Tipperary, province of Munster, Ireland, 11 miles to the S.W. of Nenagh. It is situated on the river Shannon, opposite to the town of Killaloe, with which it is connected by a bridge of nineteen arches. There are some ruins of an old castle not far from the bridge."
