The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilronan G contained the following places:

"KILRONAN, a parish in the barony of Glenahiry, county Waterford, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles S.S.W. of Clonmel, its post town. The parish is 6.5 miles long by 4½ broad. The surface is mountainous and the soil of ordinary quality. The river Suir passes along the western boundary, and the river Nier and the road from Clonmel to Youghal traverse the interior. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lismore, value £159. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Newcastle. There are four day schools. Kilronan House and Kilmanaham Castle are the principal residences. There are ruins of an old castle on the banks of the Suir. Copper, hornblende, and sienite are found in this district."

"FOUR-MILE-WATER, a village in the parish of Kilronan, barony of Glenahiry, county Waterford, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles S.W. of Clonmel. It stands near the banks of the Suir. Here are a Roman Catholic chapel and a police station. There is also a small stream called the Four-mile-water, in the county Cork."

"KNOCKALISHEEN, a hamlet in the parish of Kilronan , barony of Glenahiry, county Waterford, Ireland, 5 miles S. of Clonmel."
