The Baptist congregation was founded in 1808 by Christopher Anderson, initially using a church in the Pleasance, before purchasing Charlotte Chapel in 1816. (The chapel was previously a “Qualified” congregation, hence the chapel initially appears on Kirkwoods 1817 map as “English Chaple”). By 1849, the OS map shows it as a Baptist Chapel, with seats for 650. In 1893 it is marked as "Charlotte Baptist Chapel, seats for 350". Christopher Anderson is shown in the 1841 & 1851 Census as living nearby at 5 North Charlotte Street.
After a period without a minister, and dwindling congregation, in 1907, a revival in the congregation led to the need for larger premises, which opened in 1912.
The congregation moved in 2016 to the former St Georges West Church in Shandwick Place, which had been vacated by the Church of Scotland in 2013.
There is a Wikipedia article about the congregation.
The Rose Street building subsequently became a theatre - see, for example, the Wikipedia entry for Rose Theatre.
Information about the building, images, etc, can be found on Canmore and the Historic Environment Scotland databases.
