"STOCKLEIGH-ENGLISH, a small village and parish, 4½ miles N. by E. of Crediton, has only 161 souls, and 1104 acres of land, on the banks of a rivulet, which falls into the Creedy a little below. J.P. Bellow, Esq., is lord of the manor and owner of most of the soil, and has his seat here. The Church (St. Mary,) is a small Gothic structure, with a tower and two bells. The rectory, valued in K.B. at £7, and in 1831 at £128, is in the gift of the Lord Chancellor and incumbency of the Rev. Thomas Dixon, who has a small thatched residence, and 41 acres of glebe. The poor have a small house, and the interest of £19, given by various donors. Directory :- J.P. Bellow, Esq., Stockleigh Court; Rev. Thos. Dixon, Rectory; Abm.
