"WIGBOROUGH (LITTLE), a parish in the hundred of WINSTREE, county of ESSEX, 7 miles (S. by W.) from Colchester, containing 95 inhabitants. The living is a discharged rectory, in the archdeaconry of Colchester, and diocese of Exeter, rated in the. king's books at £ 10, and in the patronage of the Governors of the Charter-house, London. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. A creek of the Blackwater, termed Mersea channel, bounds the parish on the east, and another, called Verley channel, on the south."
