"CORFE, a parish in the hundred of Taunton, in the county of Somerset, 4 miles from Taunton, its post town. The village is situated under Blackdown Hill. The living is a perpetual curacy* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £66, in the patronage of Lady Cooper, of Barton House. The church is a atone edifice in the Anglo-Norman style. It received in 1843, and again in 1858, various additions and repairs. Here is a National school for both sexes, The lord of the manor is Robert Mattock, Esq."
