74. ALBERT AVENUE. Church of Transfiguration. This Anglican church was consecrated in 1904 to serve a district eventually assigned from the parish of Newington in 1906, however the west front was not completed until 1915. The architect was F.S. Brodrick. Red brick with stone dressings in Decorated style. This permanent church replaced a temporary building originally used as a mission hut for the navvys who built the Hull and Barnsley Railway. In the early 1970s the church was closed, the congregation moving to share Anlaby Road Methodist Church on the corner of Plane Street. The church was demolished in 1975.
