The place:

A parish town, in Hunsley-Beacon division of Harthill, Liberty of St. Peter; 3¾ miles from South Cave, 4¼ from Market Weighton, 8 from Beverley, 23 from York. Population 543. The Church, a prebendal peculiar, is a vicarage, dedicated to St. Nicholas, in the deanery of Harthill.
