The church was opened in 1870, although the congregation had been in existence since around 1765. Shown on 1893 maps as UP church, becoming St John's and King's Park by 1960's. The previous church may have been on the corner of North Wynd, opposite West Church. (This is shown as a UP church in 1852, but not by 1893)
