"NELSON is a considerable village in Llanvabon parish, about 6 miles from Pontypridd, 9 from Merthyr, and 7 from Caerphilly. The Llanciach station on the Great Westerm railway (West Midland Section) is in the vicinity." [Slaters Directory 1880]
