The Paper was presented at the Association’s July 1903 Sidmouth meeting. In his comprehensive and carefully compiled index, Mr Hamling has categorized his entries under three headings, i.e. by Subject, Locality, and Author. On completion of his index, the author suggested that the Association’s Council should encourage all authors to add value to their contributions with illustrations, maps and sections of the districts they describe. For the genealogist, the paper provides an invaluable compendium of names associated with the earliest research into our county’s unique geology. The Paper’s author and indexer, Joseph Green Hamling’s obituary is included in the Proceedings of the Geological Society of London in QJGS v. 92, part 1936. p. cvii.
